Buttock augmentation surgery with fat grafting, which is sometimes referred to as a “Brazilian butt lift” is the procedure in which the surgeon removes fat from an area in your body where it’s not wanted and grafts it into the buttocks. In other words, this procedure is a combination of liposuction and buttock augmentation. With this operation the goal is to increase the fullness and the roundness of your buttocks and improve the balance of your overall figure in order to enhance your self-image and confidence. Donor areas depend on each patient’s individual circumstances. The most popular donor areas for buttock augmentation are the lower back, the waist, flanks (love handles), thighs and the stomach. In recent years, this procedure has become increasingly popular around the world as the perception of femininity and sensuality became more commonly associated with fuller and rounder buttocks.
Buttock augmentation surgery is right for healthy individuals who do not like the shape of their butt or is looking to balance their body. Having realistic expectations and a good understanding of the procedure is also very important.
You may be a good candidate for buttock augmentation if :
Bodybuilders who are having difficulties developing gluteal muscles in proportion with the rest of their bodies are also among the usual candidates for this procedure.
Once you have decided to undergo buttock augmentation surgery, your choice of the surgeon is very critical and you must be very thorough in your research. Not every plastic surgeon performs this procedure and very few do so frequently. Don’t be reluctant to ask your doctor about his/her experience with this surgery.
When you visit your doctor for consultation, he or she will examine your body in order to determine the best spots for harvesting and grafting fat and then plan the procedure accordingly.
In preparing for buttock augmentation, you will be asked to stop smoking (if you smoke) and avoid taking blood thinning medications such as aspirin and certain anti-inflammatory drugs as they can increase bleeding. You may also be asked to get a blood test, take certain medications or adjust your current medications.
During the surgery, at first the required fat is harvested from the previously chosen donor areas where you have excess fat by inserting a cannula and suctioning out the fat. Harvested fat is then processed in order to isolate fat cells for the grafting procedure. Once the fat is ready to be grafted, it’s injected into the target area through a cannula until the desired appearance is achieved. Injection is made into different spots and layers of your buttocks in order to get a uniform, smooth, natural appearance and improve the longevity of your results.
Immediately after your surgery you will be required to wear a supportive garment. Wearing this garment for 3 to 4 weeks following the surgery is important to keep the swelling at a minimum and help achieve better results. You will need to avoid sitting on your buttocks and lying on your back for around two weeks. Strenuous physical activities should also be avoided. There will be some swelling and discomfort after the procedure depending on the location and the amount of the grafted fat. Swelling typically starts to disappear after a few weeks. Most people can return to work after around two weeks and go back to all normal activities within a month. The final result should settle in around 6 months.
